Ruhail,
Networker includes a software tool on Windows servers called the "Networker
Change Journal Manager" that tracks which files are changed and MAY be used
instead of the native process built in to Windows. I was told back when I took
the Networker Admin class that the Change Journal Manager was more efficient
than the built-in tracking system for Windows, so it theoretically improved the
backup performance, but was NOT a requirement for Networker to function.
The Change Journal Manager can be assigned to monitor specific drives --- C:
and D:, but not F: --- for example.
In order to manage which devices are tracked by the Change Journal Manager, log
in to the server in question, navigate via Start -> Programs -> EMC Networker
and one of the options should be "Networker Change Journal Manager". Use the
pulldown to select "All NTFS Volumes" and clear both the "Networker Uses Change
Journal" and "Enable Change Journal for Selected Volumes" checkboxes. Apply
your changes and you should be good to go.
We've encountered this error before on Win 2000 systems and stopping the use of
the Change Journal resolved the issue.
Also, as someone on the forum noted a few days ago, there is no support from
EMC for restores of Windows 2000 clients anymore as the OS is unsupported by
Microsoft, so you may wish to turn up the heat on the system owner to migrate
to a supported platform. I've generally found that if I start the conversation
with "I'm here to tell you that I cannot guaranty that I can recover your data,
the applications or the server itself for server X, as Microsoft and the backup
software company we use no longer support that OS in any fashion. Have you
given any thought of how you intend to move this over to a supported
environment?" generally gets them thinking about the situation pretty quickly.
Also, I'd put it in writing and make sure the appropriate management gets a
copy, just to be on the safe side.......
