I am not sure how you run your backups but assuming top speed (160MB/s for an 
LTO-4) this will give you at least 550GB/h - per tape drive. As you have 8 of 
them, you are pretty well equipped with HW. The problem must be somewhere else 
- which most likely only a consultant will find after a look at your setup.
