Chester,

I have ten Data Domain Boost devices created. This is for two reasons.
First, one can only do a single clone or restore at a time per device, so
I need to spread out the clients. We clone to tape for some, but not all
of our servers. For the servers where I need to clone to tape, I grouped
them by function into separate savegroups, each of which is assigned to a
different DD Boost device entry. For example, I have the cognos group on
one device, the kronos group on another one. The server that holds our
payroll data gets its own device, etc. You don't want to have two mission
critical servers back up to the same DD device because you can only
restore one of them at a time.
