Regarding the processes check. 

If you cannot connect to the Networker management console (NMC listens on port 
9000 by default), then the following check    

# ps -ef | grep nsr

won't really help. 

you need to check if gstd is running with  

# ps -ef | grep gst

(of course nsrexecd has to be running for gstd to start)
