Actually further testing on a couple of other servers has found one where it 
does work as intended, so the problem seems to be with this server (and as a 
result of testing identified the same problem on a couple of others), as oppose 
to a problem with the command.

My next search will be to find where all these old host names are stored and 
cleaned out of.
