Can you explain what exactly you mean by "legato console"? your message is
rather confusing.
If your NetWorker Server is intact and you only lost your NMC server, then you
should be able to backup and recover as usual and install the NMC on a
different networker client.
You won't have the information about old jobs anymore if the gstdb is gone but
you don't need it to do backups and restores. The important information is on
the NetWworkere Server ( on the online client file indices -- /nsr/index/*
and media db /nsr/mm).
If by "legato console" you mean the "Networker Server" (language!), then my
suggestion is that you grab a copy of the Networker Disaster Recovery Guide
from PowerLink.
( mmrecov, nsrck and mminfo/nsrinfo are your friends here).
If you have bootstrap backups (if not, well done and happy scanning!), you
should also have bootstrap reports with the location and ID's of those
bootstraps (printed, emailed or on txt files). find the tape with the most
recent good backup of the bootstrap, configure a tape drive, load the tape
and run mmrecov on that volume/bootsrap. That will bring your media db back
online and restore your old resources database under a renamed "res.R"
directory.
You should be able to do this in a matter of minutes once Nw server has been
installed on the DR server. BTW use the same OS/platform and Nw version if
you need to rebuild the server ( platform and NW version don't have to be
strictly the same but this flexibility is limited to some platforms and
versions).
Once the bootstrap has been recovered you will need to stop NW, rename "res"
to something different and "res.R" to "res". Then start Nw and continue with
the DR procedure as documented on the DR guide.
Answers to your questions
1)
If the NW server is intact:
run "mminfo -avot". Then read the mminfo manual page (command reference guide
in pdf or unix manual page "man mminfo" ) and the nsrinfo manual page (note:
search for "namespace" on this one)
if the server crashed do a DR and then a recovery of the indices. You will
need mminfo and nsrck for that.
2) why do you thing you may erase the contents of the tapes?
3) "everybody talks about this command line interface..."
What exactly do they say about the command line interface and what is the
problem with it? It is in your computer. Ask your administrator if you cannot
find it. I can't provide any explanation because you didn't provide any
details.
