Well, simple :
If you want to get logical list of tape content
(in other words, list of backups stored on the tape),
use mminfo.
If you want to get each tape block,
(in other words,get each 101100100111.... stored on tape),
use dd if=/dev/...
If you want to see tape content,
(in this case, does not matter if tape is RW or not)
use screwdriver to open the tape box
