LS,

We are trying to backup a firewalled DMZ of Windows Servers (2003 SP2 /
2003 R2)
I am now trying to get 1 server going but the only message I get : Start
Time : NEVER RAN 3 retries attempted.
I have opened up all the blocked ports that the firewall has intended to
block so there can't (imho) be any problem with that.
The servers see each other via DNS and reverse DNS so that has been
tackled too.

Any help is welcome.

Backup server 7.6 Windows 2003 SP2

In order to Backup a client on the outside of a firewall you will need to open the following port ranges on the backup server/client and firewall. This information is assuming the client has a Parallelism value of 4, and is given as an example (the default port ranges are [7937-9936] and [10001-30000]).The Following ports have to be open to UDP and TCP traffic in Both directions.7937-7941 10000-10040

but think at portmapper/rpc should also open (tcp port 111). Some firewalls have problems with rpc, drops connections. One workaround is pptp, gre or similar tunnel. You can also chcek your Windows client firewall settings, which Networker setup configured when installed client software.
