We are in the process of upgrading our backup hardware. We have an existing
IBM 3650 that we will repurpose as our backup server. It currently has 2 GB of
RAM which we think is not enough. How much memory is appropriate?

Background: We are currently running NetWorker V7.5.1 and backup around 3 TB
per week. Weekend full backups are in the neighborhood of 2-2.5 TB. The new
library will have 3 LTO-4 drives (probably upgraded to LTO-5 eventually)
connected with fibre channel and the new server will have a 10 GB network
connection. When we were looking at the big dedup project last spring the
consultant suggested we have 24 GB of memory in the server but that seems like
overkill as we won't be doing backup to disk or dedup at this time.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave
