My suggestion here would be use a combination of directives - skip and
always. 

Eg :
<</>>
        +skip: ? *
        +always: *.log

Just a thought: Have you tried to skip "everything except .log", like
in:
skip !*.log

I haven't seen this form in the manual, but it's worth a try anyway
