Hi
I want to import data from some old DLT8000 tapes in one zone onto LTO2 tapes
in another
I have access to a virtual tape library.
In anyone's experience Would it work better to read to virtual library drive
then clone to LTO2 or just clone from one drive to another ?
thanks

Steve

The OiginalPoster does not seem to understand that increasing the
'retention' of his backups means even more disk space will be required
to hold the backups longer (he has already run out of space!). He also
does not seem to understand that writing backups to disk requires a file
type device be defined (which is nothing more than a 'special' volume
that resides on a local disk). He needs to familiarize himself with
Networker terminology ...

'retention' is the period of time the backup is kept before it expires
and becomes 'recyclable' so that the media it resides on (either disk or
tape) then becomes over-writable (after it is re-labeled). Staging save
sets from disk requires a tape drive at minimum (I've never heard of
staging to anything other than tapes), and the OP has mentioned nothing
about even having a tape drive available to stage the save sets to... So
he cannot stage anything unless he has some kind of local tape drive
attached to his Networker server.... If he does, then he can 'stage' (or
move) the save sets from disk to tape, thereby freeing up disk space on
his file type device so he can then write more backups to it...

Hi,
The nsrstage can be refered to as a cut and paste process. By
using nsrstage you actually clone the data from the source to another
device and delete the source data (Only in case of a file type device -
backup to disk). I would recommend you to go through the command
reference guide to check the switches to suit your requirement.

What "retation" are you talking about. Kindly explain more in detail.

If it's a file type device run nsrstage -C -V "volume name"

what do you mean "file type device". backup on disk , than yes .

I wont to delete from my disk, because is full.

What will that do, will erase all my save set, ....

nsrstage -C -V Disk-002

........................................................................
.....................
how to increase retation for my networker.

First I will delete old saveset (old backup) and that I will have to
increase retation (size)

How I do that ???

I am grateful for any help
