Johannes,
DataDomain's products have an a extra level of interoperability with
Symantec's NetBackup under a product called OpenStorage (OST). You can learn
about it here: http://www.datadomain.com/products/ost.html.

EMC announced that they would be extending OST to work with NetWorker. I'm
unaware of the timeframe as I can't remember which industry blog I read this
from, but all of this was announced openly and not under a NDA.

Sean

Hi Jamie.

Are you running NetWorker 7.6 or older?

I'm sorry I don't have any details, but I've heard from EMC people that 7.6.1
is going have some features that take DD into account.

How does DD fit intor your environment? Are you going to use it as the main
storage, or as some kind of archiving or long term retention?

Johannes

We should have this in place by the end of this week. I will post what
we find out/know after that - We got the DD630 model with 12TB, (No
fiber hba option or VTL), so it will (likely?) be set up for NW disk
backup & de-dupe across the network.. (We shall see - we also had to
purchase a 10TB disk backup license for NW, so I'm assuming the DD guy
knows what he is doing in terms of NW integration).

Cheers,
Jamie
