I just had a weird issue. I have an VM (Win XP Pro, SP3) that I use as a
management console of sorts. It has NMC installed, as well as MS AD tools,
etc. I just inadvertently updated from IE 7 to IE 8 (why MS thinks that is
a "critical update", and you must explicitly decline it, I don't know).
Anyway, after the system re-started, the Remote Exec service wouldn't
start, and so neither would NMC. Gave me some weird error in the event
log:
The EMC GST Service service depends on the NetWorker Remote Exec Service
service which failed to start because of the following error:
%%0
Descriptive, huh? :-)
Anyway, I uninstalled IE 8 (it complained, but I ignored it), and now all
works as it should again. Console came up fine. Not sure what the problem
is (maybe a permissions issue on a local install folder? It complained it
couldn't write to "\Program Files\Legato\nsr\temp\ko"), but I thought I'd
pass that along. Works fine using IE 7 and JRE 1.6.
