Hmm ... not sure about the responses below based on your agreement? Did someone else post that?

Anyway, in response to 2. below. If I add it to the save set list, andd NW backs it up, what will prevent it from behaving any differently versus running the save on the client and not specifying '-L'? Does running it this way force the same behavior as using '-L' when running the save locally?

George,
I used to do exactly like your example on my old
infrastructure, with the difference that I did not run any client-initiated backups. Recoveries by SSID worked just fine. Unfortunately I can't test it now (no longer do NFS volumes). Why don't you try specify these NFS volumes as savesets and run server-initiated backups. Will it make any difference? Well, I thought about that, but don't I need to use the '-L' option on the manual save command to force it to do this? I don't see how I can mimic that from the backup server for two reasons:

1. The backup server does not have access to that NFS mount point.

Oh yes it does, via the client via the nsrexec process running on the
client that initiates the save command locally (from the client).

2. If I add that save set to the NSR client resource (nwadmin), I don't think the server will back it up when it sees it's not local?

Networker won't care if it's local or not, as long as it's mounted and
accessible from the client, it will get backed up. It only ignores
non-local filesystems when you specify 'All' for the saveset.... We
backup NFS mounted Celerra filesystems this way on a daily basis... To
restore, you login to the client it was backed up from and initiate the
restore from there...

George

Sorry, can't help more
