 Oh yes it does, via the client via the nsrexec process running on the
client that initiates the save command locally (from the client).

 Networker won't care if it's local or not, as long as it's mounted and
accessible from the client, it will get backed up. It only ignores
non-local filesystems when you specify 'All' for the saveset....  We
backup NFS mounted Celerra filesystems this way on a daily basis...  To
restore, you login to the client it was backed up from and initiate the
restore from there...
