I used to do exactly like your example on my old infrastructure, with the 
difference that I did not run any client-initiated backups.  Recoveries by SSID 
worked just fine.  Unfortunately I can't test it now (no longer do NFS 
volumes).  Why don't you try specify these NFS volumes as savesets and run 
server-initiated backups.  Will it make any difference?
