The name selected is not based alone on the entries of your /etc/hosts file.
It's based on your host name that you get from the hostname command. Since you
don't mention which flavor of *nix, RHEL puts this info in
/etc/sysconfig/network.
After verifying that your networking on each end is correctly set up, you just
make sure that the aliased names are used for the server interface. The client
needs the /nsr/res/servers file to have the alias server name and entries need
to be updated via nsradmin. The client configuration on the server can have
the "preferred" client name for the UI, make sure all of the aliases are
present, and on the Globals #1 tab, the server interface should have the
desired server network name.
