Hey all,
I'm getting ready to do a big cleanup operation of an old networker
setup. Quick bg: I'm upgrading two servers to 7.4 (one RHEL3 on 7.2.2
and one RHEL4 on 7.3.2), merging their databases, then converting one to
a storage node. I have found pretty good procedures for the 7.2-7.4
upgrade from the upgrade procedure generator, but the 7.3-7.4 upgrade
isn't in the generator, so I am going by standard docs for this.
The problem is that while the installer apparently can handle the
conversion on Windows, the guides are silent on how to handle the
server->storage node conversion on Linux. Only information I can find is
several years old, referring to 7.2 or older, claiming that it is
unsupported due to the existing media db.
So, if anyone has experience with this, please let me know what
procedure worked for them. Below is my general plan:
Install upgrade license enablers
Upgrade both servers to 7.4
Install temporary licenses on primary server for clients during conversion
Create secondary server clients on primary server (preserving client ID,
group and pool information)
Convert secondary server into storage node (remove all 7.4 packages,
backup and delete /nsr, install storage node packages)
Permanently rehost licenses on primary server
Scan in old tapes as needed
Thanks!
Greg
