May I just say one thing here now.
However it's always a good idea, it's just not appropriate here to say "Read
the manual". Though I agree it's very much appropriate for those who post to
this list to read all the manuals on this huge topic this list is all about.
And I'm sure most of us do.

No - Networker cannot backup a machine unless it is first defined as a
client to the Networker server... (and the client machine has to have a
Networker client package installed on it also).
This client definition on the Networker server then 'owns' the
backups (or index) of what is backed up from the client machine. The
clients Index is what tracks and maintains the backup history for the
client and its savesets....
Of course it is possible to use a script to add a number of clients (and
save-set definitions) to the Networker server via nsradmin ... But that
is another topic... Read the manuals...
