darn, so i am guessing that there is no way this can be re-configured so that 
it acts like it used to?

failing that i think there is a command i read about which allows you to change 
the retention periods manually, but i think that could get messy very quickly.

Again if anyone has any suggestions / comments please let me know, and thanks 
for digging that out of the release notes.
