If you are fitting 700GB on a LTO3 tape, then the tape drive hardware is
compressing it. If you turn on client side compression you will backup
roughly the same amount of original data, and the used will show 400GB
when its full.

What I meant was if there are any other way to enable compression on
individual volume except applying directive to the client resource ?

I am using LTO-3 400GB/800GB cartridges and most of the tapes are
currently showing close to 700 GB under "used" tab in NMC

I haven't applied compression directive to any of the clients yet. 

Is there any other way  to verify this ?
