Subject: [Networker] Created Website with 30 days of Savegroup Logs....
interest?

Hi,

I'm new to the site and I'm in a sharing mood.....

Trying to see if anyone would be interested in some perl scripts that I wrote
which are used to create a website that does the following:

  1) Provides a quick search capability to find networker client info: client
name, backup server, schedule, group, group schedule, save sets, client type,
and client version. This info would be needed to drill down into the website
for item #2.

  2) The left pane of the website lists each of my Networker servers. Each
server has links that will show:
         - 30 days of save group backup logs
         - 30 days of save group perfromance info (i.e. start time, backup
duration, amount backed up, backup transfer rate, group name, and succeeded or
failed messages
         - 7 days of Files Changed Logs. A summary of all files that changed
during backup for the day (we use to identify potential problems with open
database files)
         - 7 days of Failed Saveset Logs. A summary of all savesets that failed
to backup for the day.

All of the information displayed is text based and the files are built
everyday. All information is gotten from the savegroup logs.

I created the site because I was tired of: a) changing email notifications
when a new dba/sa was assigned to a database/server and b) having the same
dba's and sa's always asking me if a backup was good on a certain day.

The website info isn't fancy, but I've found it very helpful in managing my
networker environment and users.

Note: All my backup servers (5) are unix based..... I imagine that the
scripts would work just as well on windows based servers since I'm basically
scraping savegroup log files.

The scripts aren't perfect..... but, they work well enough.....

If there is enough interest, I'll write up some doc and tar the stuff up.
It will require you to update the html with information specific to you. My
html skills are almost non-existent (as you will see if/when I post the code).

Jim
