In regard to: [Networker] Does a tape marked as "FULL" ever expire and...:
I'm wondering. If I have a tape that NetWorker has marked as "FULL" ..
.will it ever expire? For example, if I have a browse/retention policy of
2 months. NW fills up a tape, and marks it as "FULL". 2 months from now,
will that tape then become recycable, like other non-full tapes?
Yes (when nothing remains that depends on savesets on that tape, so it
could well be longer than you would expect). The tape will list as
recyclable. NetWorker may not actually recycle it for quite a while,
as it only does so when it needs a tape.
I've always just manually marked it as recyclable after the 2 month
period, and then ran a script to re-label all recyclable tapes. Mostly
because I thought that, being FULL, NetWorker would never use the tape
again.
Not true. NetWorker has no problem recycling a tape that's full. In
fact, even if you mark a tape as read-only, NetWorker will still
eventually recycle it once nothing depends on it and all its savesets
have passed retention.
The only way to prevent NetWorker from recycling a tape is to switch
the tape to "manual". Note that savesets on the tape will still become
recyclable as normal.
