I think the theory is it's an appliance and the only people who need root on
it are the appliance vendor support folks. It's supportability. Limiting it
to running only appliance code, eliminating a whole range of branches in the
troubleshooting tree because the enduser doesn?t have root.

Sometimes giving someone the root password is like handing them a loaded
gun... If they don't have the proper technical skills to use it effectively,
it can be very dangerous in the wrong hands... Maybe EMC is ultimately
protecting them from themselves.. If they're knowledgeable enough to give
themselves root access, they don't need EMC to provide it... If they're not,
EMC is better off not providing it.. EMC could setup 'sudo' to allow them to
only do what they need to, preventing them from shooting themselves in the
foot.
