I have found that majority of the datas extensions are pdfs, jpg, .nfs..etc. So as said earlier i think these types of data cannot be compressed. So could anyone give me a official docs of legato regarding this information so that i can convince my superiors that these types of data cannot be compressed.

The compression used in NetWorker is no better than any standard compression program; in fact, I'd suggest it's probably not as good because it has to be faster.

With this in mind, I'd hope that you could convince your superiors by grabbing some sample files that don't work under compression, and running them through compression programs such as WinZip.

I also find another good way of explaining this is to compress a zip file - typically the result is bigger than the original zip, because when you compress files already in this state typically all that happens is the root file size remains the same but header information for compression _adds_ to the size.

I guess what I'm saying is --- documentation on such things is sparse, but empirical evidence is a great way of proving it.

Cheers,

Preston.
