The compression used in NetWorker is no better than any standard
compression program; in fact, I'd suggest it's probably not as good
because it has to be faster.
With this in mind, I'd hope that you could convince your superiors by
grabbing some sample files that don't work under compression, and
running them through compression programs such as WinZip.
I also find another good way of explaining this is to compress a zip
file - typically the result is bigger than the original zip, because
when you compress files already in this state typically all that
happens is the root file size remains the same but header information
for compression _adds_ to the size.
I guess what I'm saying is --- documentation on such things is sparse,
but empirical evidence is a great way of proving it.
