Thanx for the reply......
i agree with what you say davina..What i wanted to say was that in the tapes
which has 320 GB capacity...it stored only 120 ( on an avg) for the filer. But
if the whole capacity of the filer is 1.2 TB which is uncompressed, it should
be filled in 3-4 tapes ( 320 * 4= 1.3 Tb approx).
Every1 says that the sdlt tapes is having uncompressed capacity of 320 GB. So
what my real question is that cant 320 GB of data go in the tape which will
ultimately help me in reducing the number of tapes.
Your problem might not be related to compression at all. If you are not
achieving even the native capacity of the tapes then you are
experiencing errors which are interpreted by NetWorker as end-of-tape.
These could be caused by lots of things:
* Faulty or failing tape drives
* Bad or worn-out media
* SAN problems such as SCSI bus resets
Do not jump to the conclusion that any one of these is the cause. Look
at all available logs to determine the cause. I would start with the
latter. Check that zoning is correct (nothing in the zone that is not
needed, small zones etc) and that you are not mixing tape and disk on
the same HBA.
