Hi admins and gurus,

I know that there is no bare metal recovery (or hdd image backup) option for
Networker, if you are not using Homebase (or any other third party product).

I also know that ASR somehow works for Windows servers, however, is there
really no solution similar to ASR for Unix and Linux servers?

I have searched all around and find this post which could be a way to go: http://www.backupcentral.com/phpBB2/two-way-mirrors-of-external-mailing-lists-3/emc-networker-19/disaster-recovery-plan-using-networker-87356/ , but I am not sure if this can be somehow automated for non-experienced IT guys to handle.

There is no problem for a persistent, capable, system administrator to create a CD that will prompt the user for the relevant information (IP address, legato server name etc) and do the recovery in an automated fashion (just like Windows ASR). I will probably not do such a thing, because it doesn't worth the effort for me. Anyhow, we Unix guys like to type commands to some CLI. We are puzzled when we get a GUI that does things which we don't understand.

Should we wait for such a solution to be integrated, if it will ever be
integrated.

I am not sure what are the plans of EMC for such a solution.

Please share your ideas, or better, solutions :)

Thanks.
