A few questions on restoring client indexes

1. Can an older index always be recovered as long as you still have the tape and a drive that can read it?

Specifically, if you want to perform a browsable recover from data that was backed up in the past, and the entries are no longer in the client's index (browse period has expired) then you will need to recover the index from that time and merge into existing index using 'nsrck -L7' correct? BUT what if the index that was written to tape was from an older NW release? For example, what if you're at, say, 7.4.x, and the index was written out using 7.2.2 or earlier?

2. What if the client is no longer around?

Just create a fake entry in server's /etc/hosts with that client name, and recreate the client resource but using the same client id as before which you can get from 'mminfo'? That sound right?

Thanks

George
