my CDI is OFF on the 2 devices.

CDI in NetWorker's tape drive resource has nothing to do with your problem. What CDI does is allow NetWorker to sense when the tape drive requests cleaning, then it does a tape cleaning as soon as the tape drive is available.

Can you use the command

mt -f fname status ?

Replace "fname" with the path for one of your tape drives. Then repeat mt with the path to the other tape drive. What happens?
