Re: [Networker] Split Save Sets

Ok - the reason I ask is that the 2GB saveset behaviour (called
continuation savesets) was what networker did back in very early
versions - In newer versions of the server the old rsh protocol is still
supported for compatibility reasons with older client versions and older
client's backups.
There must be a reason in your environment why the normal version 7
protocols fail to establish a connection and things are backing off to
the old method of using rsh. Typically that reason is that the 7938 TCP
port is blocked inbound to the client so the server fails back to trying
to connect via the system's rpc portmapper on port 111 which does manage
to work.
But if there's no firewall doing this then you could check nsrexecd is
running on the clients that don't work - if it isn't then it must be
that root rsh connections are permitted between server and client (very
old style practice for unix hosts, not recommended any more to allow rsh
to work at all because of security concerns).
I can't think of any other reason than that.. It may be a software
firewall on the client itself that's doing this...
Maybe if you try running from the server 'nsrports -s {clientname}'
and see if that returns some text about 'Service Ports'?
See the manpage for nsr(8)
