Hello,
Depending on the expertise\hardware and resource's at hand, i would prefer 
NDMP for single filer to be with Direct attached Tapes, in larger 
environment NDMP Tape server hosted on a Storage Node may work better and 
for real small environments, NFS may be simpler.
Others on the list may prefer sightly different approach.
