Dear List,

i am having some trouble with an library. The library is an
HP MSL 2024 with 2 LTO-3 drives. It is attached via SCSI to
an backup server running Windows 2003 SP2 32-bit and Networker
7.4 SP2.

My problem is that networker seems to have problems recognizing hardware
changes: Once a week we open the library by unlocking the fron doors and
taking out all tapes previous written to. When we open the library
networker recognizes this and changes the libraries hardware status
from 'ready' to 'needs attention'. After changing the tapes and closing
the library the hardware status stays at 'needs attention' (normal
behavior should change the status back to 'ready'). The hardware
status only changes to 'ready' if resetted by 'nsrjb -H -E'.

I have opened a call at EMC regarding this problem. EMC insists on using
the cap feature. This might be right but i wont change > 10 tapes via
exchanging them with an mailslot (i think "cap features" means "use the
mailing slot").

So my question: Does anybody know this problem? I dont see any advance
in the EMC case.

I am convinced if i change the operating system to
linux everything will work (we have another customer with the same
library and networker version on linux where everything works fine).
