I am not sure if this apply to you since I am pretty new at Networker. I saw an 
error just like this while testing our backup to storage node running Solaris. 
The save set actually completed but index failed with that error.

I followed the instruction from NW admin guide 7.4 page 166. example 23 to 
create an Index pool.  That seems to fix my backup problem.
