Netapp would also recommend that such an jump should not be made( i am
talking about DataOntap upgrade), there are dependencies, firmware issues,
incremental bug fixes that could complicate upgrade and in case of failure
or an issue, you would not know where to point the finger.
If the company has waited that long to upgrade to current level, then
little more time should not hurt.
The upgrade to 7.2.4 can be accomplished on the same day.
Eventually, it all boils down to philosophy as to how you wan to pursue
such an upgrade, my thinking is , it's better to be safe then sorry.

Why do you say this? What is the sense in installing intermediate
releases rather than going directly to the version you wish to use?
