be more careful in your hardware selection.  If you select the right

True, but if you're in production, there's a good chance that you'll end of with x86 kit from Dell, HP, IBM, or Sun. All of which have entries on the Solaris 10 HCL. If you're talking about "Tier 2" equipment, then yes, Linux probably supports a larger variety of hardware.
