Stan,

Could you set up a cron job to run a simple script regularly and dump
the results to a file? Just having the output from mminfo -aX at a
regular interval should help you to figure out growth.

I have never had enough disk space or time to track that information
on my NetWorker server. Our backup retention period is three months.
No one in any other department (or even my own) is required to provide
projections on data growth. I just emailed my boss and asked him if we
could at least buy one new tape cartridge per new server added this
fiscal year. We do charge each department a fee each time they add a
new server onto our nightly backup schedule and that fee is supposed
to include the cost of new tape media, so I figured it couldn't hurt
to actually use that money.
