Weird, but not unheard of.  I've definitely seen that before (with other
application, not with networker).

Snoop may slow down the machine or the connection enough that some error
condition does not occur, and the error condition requires a reset that
takes longer than the slowdown.  This could be a network problem (duplex
mismatch?), OS (TCP algorithm, fast start bugs), to the application
(race condition on timing of packet receipt).  

You might want to compare the result of that snoop with a packet capture
from another machine (so you get the "bad" result).
