Hello,
Couple of issues with our NetApp VTL700.
Environment:
Windows 2003 64 bit, Networker 7.3.3.
1. Some Tapes show up in VTL as unlabeled, barcode is accurate but volume
tab is unlabeled, subsequently, cloning fails as networker does not seems
to mount this volumes, if the tapes are mounted manually, cloning
continues.
Will setting CDI flag to on help? usually, I reset the VTL and
re-inventory the tapes to fix the problem, but it happens everyday.
2. Storage over allocation is configured, when a 25 GB ( predefined@vtl)
Tape is used, the actual space used is 18 Gb (apx) due to hardware
compression, however, not sure if this capacity can be re-utilized at
number of Tapes are predefined, would setting the tape capacity higher
then 25 GB at Device level achieve higher utilization? Would over
allocating number of Tapes be the answer, how do other VTL deal with
compression, unlike real tape networker stops writing to the VTL volumes
at it's uncompressed capacity.
3. Some times even when all cloning is completed, the monitoring Tab shows
cloning session as active, no data movement is seen, no devices are busy,
no alert, just seems to be that cloning is hung, the group status shows
that cloning is in progress, however, all the save set detail shows that
the have been cloned already.
