OK, so EMC/Legato has done it once again. Most of you know what I'm talking about, and those of you who don't, here's the story:

Once again they have released a version of networker that is completely unworkable in a large production environment. The nsrmmd processes hang so often that it effectively kills networker from within in 24 hours. I'm not sure if we've experienced any index corruption or similar, but it sure as hell isn't working good.

This is not the first time EMC/Legato releases software that is unusable for what its sold for. But releasing a minor bugfix version with new bugs like this one sure makes you wonder if they have any quality control at all.

And as usual, support has been less than helpful. No, I don't want to do unecessary restarts of networker. No, we're not suffering from any network problems. And I had to figure out that it was a good idea to look for core dumps in /nsr/cores myself. And now I'm waiting over the week-end for a debug binary of nsrmmd. Yeah, like we're going to wait over the week-end for something that is killing our environment. And its not even a patch, just something that will help EMC figure out why its crashing, instead of reproducing the problem in-house. I can't even imagine how long it will take to develop an actual fix for the problem. Somehow, I'm not happy with us customers being the test base of their alpha-releases. Because I really doubt that we are/will be the only ones that run into this.

So, I wanted to complain a bit, and make other customers aware of that they are probably not alone in their frustration. And if I didn't make it clear yet: DO NOT UPGRADE!
