Thousands of tapes, required to do a tape inventory every quarter (snap
shot in time), then I need to account for discrepancies.  (i.e.:
damaged, added to inventory, missing, etc.).

The problem is it's too manual.

We do have a barcode reader, which helps, but the reconciliation is too
manual, and too much room for error.
