To all of those who helped on this I thank you. I ended up opening a
case with EMC and neither the mminfo or recover commands they suggested
worked so, we scanned the tape "scanner -vvvvv -I -S "SID" \\.\TapeX"
which made the tape browsable. From there I was able to do the restore
from networker user.. Thanks again!!

I would personally recommend changing it just for that one client. But
that is personal preference. You should be able to change back without
ill effects, but why take the risk. 

Anyone else please feel free to venture an opinion.

Kelly, thanks for responding. I am logged on using the service account
now and i`m running the scanner -iv \\.\Tapex all of my clients use the
same browse and retention times which are setup in the policies. If I
change the policies will I be able to change them back without any ill
effects. Should I just create a new one for that client while I do this
restore. Again thanks for your help.

I generally find that I have to do both, run "nsrck -L 7 -t time_value
client_name, and run scanner -i but it depends on the version of
Networker you are running.  From what I understand, 7.3.1 is notorious
for not recovering client indexes correctly. Also, I found in the past,
that you are better off changing the browse time, before drilling down
into the folders for the files, otherwise Networker User has a tendency
to crash.

All, I have a windows environment that i am trying to recover a file
from several months ago. The user does not know the exact directory or
filename but assures me that it is in one of two directories. The tapes
from May are marked as retrievable and i have tried to recover all of
the data from those two directories to a restore folder but Networker
user always bombs out. I`ve tried running scanner on the tape but I
don`t think I have the right commands or understand them completely. Any
help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
