I just thought I'd open a whole new subject on this rather than continue with the previous thread.

We've been trying to generate unique save set names for our RMAN Oracle backups. There have been a number of responses, but I think I've resolved the problem. It appears that it was in fact working the whole time, but we were looking at the output from 'mminfo' and always seeing the same name reported which, of course, will always be the RMAN script name since that's what we list for the NSR client resource's save set field. We concluded, therefore, that the format command was somehow not having any effect. However, if I instead run:

nsrinfo -n oracle client

or:

nsrinfo -t nsavetime -n oracle client

then I see the actual save set names exactly as the format command dictated in the RMAN script.

The "-n oracle" part of the command is the crux. Otherwise, the command fails or returns nothing
(0 objects).

Is anyone actually seeing "unique" save set names reported from mminfo? If so, that would surprise me because even normal file backups will only generate whatever save set name is listed, right? After all, what else should it list? Of course, that can be changed using '-N' if run from the CLI, but I'm talking about via nwadmin. And I don't know any other way to get the Oracle backups to run other than to list the RMAN script name in the save set field for the client, and if we do that, we can't very well expect anything other than that name to
get reported by mminfo.

George
