Could nsrck be used to recover an older version of the client index and merge in the affected entries?

On another note, what about backing up to disk on the Oracle server and then using a standard backup from disk to tape just like you would with any data. So, f or example, a year later, couldn't you simply run a save set recover to pull the data
off tape to disk and then point RMAN at that area and recover from there?

That is correct. RMAN will request a certain string. If NW doesn't
know where that string is (which I'm assuming is kept in the browse
information), then it's not going to know where to get it from.

This means there's no reason to have your browse and retention periods
set different on Oracle backups. Unlike file backups, the browse
information takes up NO space, so there's no penalty for leaving it in
there. There's only a penalty (which it sounds like you're
experiencing) for letting it expire.

Well, I'm assuming that (after reading some NMO documentation, and
getting no answer here) that a "saveset recovery" of a backup (between the browse time and retention time) would require a "scanner" command to bring the client file indexes back into the browsable timeframe so that RMAN (from the Oracle client) can then do a recovery of the backedup data.

Is this correct?

Thanks,
Randy

Hello, we are using Networker 7.3.2 (Jumbo 11) on a Linux Server.

We have NMO version 4.2-1 installed on the Oracle Client.

We have Browse/Retention setup for 30/90 days.

We can Restore the database files if they are within the 30 days
browse
time.

If there an RMAN way to restore database file which fall between the browse and retention times?

I'm not trying to use "recover -S" or saveset recover on the server
side,
but would like to have the DBA use an equivalent command/script on the

Oracle side.

Using nsrnmoinfo:
nsrnmoinfo -s networker /PJASMINE_t620870848_s20052_LVL_1/
/PJASMINE_t620870848_s20052_LVL_1/: (Inside of the browse time).
       000262 at /dev/nst9 (save time 1177560450)

nsrnmoinfo -s networker /PJASMINE_t618028080_s18488_LVL_1/
/PJASMINE_t618028080_s18488_LVL_1/: (Outside of the browse time).
       No volumes found.

The savsets all show up with mminfo -vt command on the server side.

Thanks,
Randy
