Just to update the group on a nsrmmgd problem on a new install on Redhat 3 AS
Update 8.
Networker version 7.3.2 Update 1 - Build 386
This is installed and connected to a Fibre attached HP ESL 322e Library with 5
x LTO-3
Drives. All the drives are seen correctly as is the autochanger on the library.
Jbconfig adds the library successfully however when the services start we get
the nsrmmgd restarting itself every 2 seconds. After 11 attempts it terminates,
stops nsrd and logs the following.
nsrd: Program nsrmmgd terminated 11 times in 1320 seconds.
nsrd: nsrmmgd has exited on signal 11
nsrd: networker daemons critical: nsrmmgd has exited on signal 11
nsrd: shutting down
nsrmmdbd: media db is closed
nsrd: successful shutdown
Turns out all the above was caused by a typo in the /etc/hosts for the system
name. Fixing the name resolves the nsrmmgd exiting problem.
There was nothing whatsoever logged anywhere on the system to point to the
/etc/hosts file.
Just passing the detail on as it may save some head scratching..
Thanks,
Vincent

Subject: [Networker] Help with an EMC support call on nsrmmgd in 7.3.x
Hello everyone,
I¹m having a problem with nsrmmgd stating too quickly at a customer site, so no
tapes can be loaded as it fails with an authentication problem (error 13 I
think). If I kill it, it restarts automatically and everything is fine.
The call has been open for 2 months now, and EMC Australia are doing their
normal superb job of support and not helping at all. I have been contacted by
someone else, in here, who had a similar, but intermittent, problem.
So, has anyone else here seen the same problem on any platform? If so, did you
log a call, and can you tell me the call log number at EMC. I need to prove to
this person that we are not the only site with the issue.
Thanks in advance
Siobhán
