We just started utilizing SMS for networker client 7.3.2, if you are so 
far behind as far as client version you may want to do some tesing before 
mass rool out, typically, i am grouping servers into TEST, prod1, prod2 
etc and targeting each of the groups at a time.
You can use the sms file for updates to exising client, this has worked 
fine for us, as far as installs on new boxes, sms has a way to create a 
deplyoment package by watching your install routine and then using that 
deploy in various enviroments.
If you have Networker 7.3.2 you can just use Magangment GUI to query the 
client versions or nsradmin.
