I have done directed recovery of Netapp data as long as recovering to 
Netapp only, i.e relocate data backed up on vol1\home\file to vol2
\restore, i usually, use GUI from networker server, never tried using 
client and cmd line from a different machine, i am thinking networker sees 
that as non NDMP enviroment and fails.
Also make sure you have DAR enabled in Netapp client defination if backing 
up using NDMP, also you may have to specify /vol/restore when recovering 
and not \vol\restore.
