Hi Martin
No, it's not a cluster.

We've just upgraded to sp5 and after that, we also installed some post sp5
patches (off the top of my head...)

NW65OS5A (new SERVER.EXE among other things)
NSS??? (latest post sp5 NSS patches)
iPrint??? (NDPS/iPrint post sp5 update)
SSP201 (post sp5 security stuff - NMAS login methods updates etc)
Virtual Office (2.1.7)

The NW65SP5UPD1 has 'some' of these patches in, and also contains updates to
NWLIB and WSOCK6 (i - I think).
That update is still beta as far as I know. so I'm lothe to add it to
production servers. Will see how it goes on the test server, but I've been
bitten before with stuff installed on test servers that worked fine, but not on
production servers. The problem is, they don't have the 'history' of updates
and load the production servers do.

Do you have a call logged with EMC? I'm logging ours tomorrow - so I will say
that others are seeing these problems.

Cheeers... Allan.

Hi Allan,

We make it like your Tip b). Then it will work. We have had install NW65SP5
without an Update on our Netware Maschines.
Have you a Netware Cluster??

Greets

Martin

client backups failing

Hi Martin
When you say you back them up at different times, do you mean...

a) You backup SERVER1 at one time, SERVER2 at another etc
or
b) You backup SERVER1-VOL1 at one time, SERVER1-VOL2 at another time?

I'm guessing the latter? Which would be a pain for us - I'd have to set up
multiple versions of each client for a start.

I take it nobody's tried back revving TCP?

I'll be loggin this call on Monday morning. Anyone else already logged it,
so I could quote the log number?

For info, I've installed NW65SP5UPD1 (Beta) on a test server - that backed
up OK last night, but I'd need to leave it for a week or so before I was
confident it has fixed the problem. As well as 2 fixes we already had
installed (NSS and NWOS) it also patches NWLIB and WSOCK (6i).

Cheeers... Allan.

Hi Allan,

We have 4 Netware Machines with SP5 but sometimes we have the same case. We
"fix" the case when we backup the volumes at different time. When we Backup
it on the same time i have the same case as you. But we have a Netware
Cluster with Cluster Volumes and no Single Servers or Standalone Volumes.

Best Regards Martin

Hi
We've just upgraded a batch of servers from Netware6.5sp3 to sp5.

They're all running the Networker client 7.2.1, and currently have the
default sp5 TCP NLM's.

We're finding backups a bit flaky to say the least (though on odd nights
they backup OK). This is currently acorss 2 sites (8 servers), but we have a
few more sites who will be upgrading very soon.

The two sorts of errors we're seeing are...

1) Some volumes (not always the same volume) never start, so a server with
say 4 volumes will backup 3 - the 4th will never start.

2) Backup of a particular volume will loop round and round. It shows as
completed but then restarts, and we have to kill the backup job to stop it.

I had seen mention of back revving to TCP659j, so tried that on a test
server. It backed up twice OK, then abended!

Have also tried TSA5up19, but no joy there either.

Anyone else having problems?

Cheeers.. Allan.
