We've had an issue for quite some time now, where some savesets
sometimes never complete and never timeout. There is no actual
session showing in the sessions list on the backup server. This
seems to happen with both UNIX and windows clients. Our
investigation that the save process on the client just hangs
forever, and the group finishes once the save process on the client
is killed.
We're working with EMC support on this, but no fix or cause has
been presented at this time for us. Thus, I'm wondering if we're
the only ones experiencing this, since we figure it should be a
fairly common problem. Thus I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing
this. If so, do you have any more info than I currently have?
Check this list's archives; this is a long-standing issue with
NetWorker going way back. I have seen it several times. In fact, just
the other day, we resolved that problem on a Windows 2003 client
after at least two weeks of trial and error. The solution in that
case was to update the hardware firmware for that client (network
card, disk drives, RAID controller, etc.). After the firmware was
updated, all the backups ran to fruition.
Some people have scheduled jobs that go and kill clients that have
backed up for more than 24 hours. This is all detailed in the
archives at http://listserv.temple.edu/archives/networker.html
