I think compression on the hardware and optimizing parallelism should help.

Upgraded to Spectralogic T120 jukebox LTO3 drives and still getting
23M/second write speeds. Less than half of expected. Cloning is at
about same speed (up to a whopping 32M/second).
Is this what others are experiencing - or more correctly, what am I
missing?
Just spent lots of dollars with the main interest being of decreasing
time of backups and it's not happening. Doh!
