Dear All,
Could any one let me know when to retire SDLT tape media. According to
documents, SDLT tapes can be retired after 1 million passes or 10000
load/unload cycles. We are using SDLT media and we found some of the tapes,
which have neither crossed 1 million passes nor 10000 load/unload cycles,
are becoming defective(CRC errors) resulting backup failure and drive
failure. This has been happening many times. Is there any method to know the
tape is going to be defective? We are using Legato Networker7.1.2.

Are anybody using a process to retire tape media or is there any thumb rule
to retire it? It would be great if some body help me on this.

Thanks in Advance,
Srinivas Rao S.
