I'm running ZFS for the adv_file on my test box, it has some level of
promise - I just didn't mention it because it has up until now been a
classic example of vapourware ( I note that sun have actually announced
it in a press release for june availability. Woo hoo.)

Everyone it seems (including sun sales reps) gets SAM-FS mixed up with
QFS... In fact I just did it too... One is a filesystem and costs a
fixed amount per host... The other is charged by the TB and is almost a
viable alternative to legato.

QFS is what I was referring to. Mea culpa.

You did not mention what version of Solaris you are running, but you
should be aware that there is a 2TB filesystem limit for versions of
Solaris prior to Solaris 9 Update 4.

SAM-FS seems a little extreme, but I have never priced it out vs. vxfs.
Depending on your implementation timeframe and version of Solaris, you
may want to consider ZFS, Sun's soon to be released vxfs killer.
